Paris Saint-Germain came out on top with a 1-2 victory over FC Barcelona this Wednesday at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys as part of Matchday 2 of the 2025-2026 Champions League. Following the win, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke to Movistar, where he notably praised the performance of 19-year-old attacking midfielder Senny Mayulu.
Luis Enrique: “It was a very complete match.”
A great game?
Today, it was an excellent match. When you see two teams that don’t just play it safe, but really try to hurt each other with the ball… it was a very complete game. After conceding a goal, we got back to our level. The first half was balanced, and in the second, we were better.”
Pedri and Vitinha impressive?
“Pedri and Vitinha are, for me, the two best in the world. It’s fantastic to play against these players. They have an excellent team, with young talent.”
Luis Enrique: “He has a lot of qualities.”
Mayulu?
“Mayulu is very good, you know him now. He has a lot of qualities: he can shoot with both feet, play inside or outside… I’m very lucky.”
It was a match of the highest level, even if it didn’t quite reach the intensity of a European final. There were some absentees, but above all two well-armed teams, and we saw plenty of quality football.
Barça dominated early on, but PSG grew into the game and eventually took control. This was thanks in large part to their young players—particularly Mayulu, who showed once again that he can play at the top level. Of course, he still has room to improve, but he stood out in his role as a false nine and was rewarded with a goal.
His display underlines that PSG’s project is a solid one. Some critics question the club’s transfer activity on a daily basis, yet performances like this show the squad has real strength in depth.
