Paris Saint-Germain won 2-1 against FC Barcelona at the Montjuïc Stadium on Wednesday, in the second matchday of the 2025-2026 Champions League. After this victory, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke at the press conference.
Luis Enrique: “Regardless of the players, our identity remains.”
Are you surprised that you were able to win with so many young players in the team?
“First of all, I want to thank Barcelona for selling jerseys for the Xana Foundation. We raised funds for a good cause. I thank the entire club. We played a very good match. It was difficult at the beginning because Barcelona had possession of the ball. The first 20 minutes were tough.
We gained confidence. In the second half, we were superior and deserved the victory. Regardless of the players, our identity remains the same. This is an important victory because it’s always great to beat Barcelona.”
Luis Enrique: “This result is important for our confidence as a team.”
Is this victory a turning point?
“This result is important for our team’s confidence. We suffered last season. The players’ confidence will increase. We want to enjoy this success and share it with our fans.”
Are you now thinking about finishing in the top 8?
“I don’t know. It depends on everyone’s schedule, but ours is very difficult. We can win every match, but we can also lose every match. The top 8 doesn’t interest me. What matters is embodying the club’s mentality and DNA.”
Luis Enrique: “We showed that we can overcome difficulties, as we did last season.”
Are you proud to have been able to impose your style of play?
“We play with the same identity, regardless of the players. We had a very high-level second half. We must continue like this.”
Does your composure and calmness allow you to overcome many difficult situations?
“It’s difficult to play away from home here. It’s not easy. We have to manage the game and adapt. We showed that we can overcome difficulties last season. Against Tottenham, we started the same way.” We were trailing 2-0. The last ten minutes made us proud.”
Are Nuno Mendes and Achraf Hakimi currently the two best full-backs in the world?
“Without a doubt. They are the two best for me. When you have two players that fast and positioned so high up the pitch, you can approach the match with confidence. We played at an excellent level.”
