This week saw the first leg of the Champions League 2024-2025 quarter-finals. As a result, UEFA is organizing a series of fan votes. Paris Saint-Germain, who lost to Aston Villa at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday (3-1), has 3 players selected in UEFA’s Team of the Week.
With Nuno Mendes (22-year-old left-back), Vitinha (25-year-old midfielder) and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (24-year-old striker), PSG are well represented in this team. And deservedly so. Mendes impressed and was decisive twice to make up for his error in conceding the opening goal. Vitinha was the metronome in midfield and Kvaratskhelia was a great creator of chances as well as scoring a superb goal. Not to mention the defensive efforts.
The surprise was not to find Désiré Doué (19-year-old midfielder/attacker) despite a great performance with creativity, effort and a superb goal. But he was a right-winger and came up against stiff competition from Lamine Yamal (17-year-old striker from FC Barcelona).
Other Parisians could perhaps also be present, such as João Neves (20-year-old midfielder). But we can accept that other players were at a very high level this week.
