This Sunday at 9pm CET (broadcast on DAZN), Paris Saint-Germain take on Chelsea at New York’s MetLife Stadium in the final of the 2025 Club World Cup. In a press conference, Enzo Maresca, coach of the English club, spoke about the match and the Parisian opponent. He had strong words of praise for PSG, not forgetting to express his confidence in the team.
Maresca “Our team deserves all the confidence of the fans.”
“Our team deserves all the confidence of the fans, because this season we finished in the top four of the Premier League, won the Europa League Conference and are in the final of the (Club) World Cup.
A year ago, nobody was talking about Chelsea in terms of soccer, only about the size of the squad and the money spent. Now, nobody talks about all that anymore, all they talk about is the game, the way we win, and that’s my greatest achievement.
Maresca “I enjoy watching them play”.
PSG and Luis Enrique are role models for all soccer lovers. We have the utmost respect for what they have shown in France, in Europe and during this World Cup.
I enjoy watching them play. It’s an incredible team, with the best coach, Pep Guardiola, and incredible players. It’s not going to be easy, but we’re going to give it our all and try to win. We have our own style and have shown this season how we do things.”
The Chelsea coach has nothing but respect for PSG, this season’s Champions League winners with their striking collective strength. There’s plenty to be wary of, as their performances against Europe’s big boys in this Club World Cup have shown once again.
4-0 against Atlético Madrid, 2-0 against Bayern Munich and 4-0 to beat Real Madrid, Paris arrive with impressive strength and confidence. However, Maresca’s team are not about to let their heads drop. They also have their strengths. Even if they lack consistency and efficiency over the 2024-2025 season, they also have the ability to annoy everyone. Not least thanks to their often solid defense.
It’s going to be a great match, with PSG undoubtedly “favourites”, although Maresca may be exaggerating his team’s collective strength a little. At least in terms of consistency. But they can be on a good night for this final and be formidable opposition.
