Marquinhos, the 31-year-old central defender and captain of Paris Saint-Germain, paused in the mixed zone after the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea (highlights Chelsea/PSG) at New York’s MetLife Stadium on Sunday in the final of the 2025 Club World Cup.

“I think it’s hard, hot like that after a match like that, a final. It’s a match we wanted to win to win another title and finish off this incredible season we’ve had.

It’s a shame, but I think if you look back over the season, I’ve been with PSG for 13 years and I’ve never had an incredible season like this. We had the opportunity to win everything. We won the Champions League and reached the final of the World Cup.”
