Ousmane Dembélé, 27, is setting stadiums alight at the moment. Former Rennes midfielder Gelson Fernandes gave L’Equipe his opinion on the Paris striker’s recent form.
Fernandes “As a 9, yes, I’m surprised”
“Surprised by Dembélé’s success?
As a 9, yes, I’m surprised. But as a central player, no. When he turns around, faces the goal and has only one opponent left to eliminate, Ousmane has always been formidable. On the flank, you have to eliminate one, two or three players. There, he’s always fresh, and when Ousmane is fresh, it hurts.”
Dembélé’s recent efficiency is certainly incredible. The player walks on water, closer to the surface, with less effort to make. He’s so good at 1 vs 1 that he can very quickly set the target in his new position. As well as the change of position, there’s a noticeable change in his mentality, his outlook has changed and he’s ready for battle. Now he’s going to have to keep up the same pace, because that’s what top-level football is all about.
