Désiré Doué, a 19-year-old Paris Saint-Germain midfielder who trained at Stade Rennais, has enjoyed a meteoric rise. Mathieu Le Scornet, one of his trainers at Rennes, spoke to L’Equipe about his progress.
Le Scornet “He’s strong in the back, the pecs, the quads, the arms.”
“There was a form of athletic metamorphosis when he arrived in the pros. He was already a racing car, a 4×4, with ischios that were already massive, but after that, he put on all the options (laughs). He’s got a strong back, pecs, quads and arms.
What also jumps out at me is his ability to absorb contact at the right moment. He’s got the right sheathing timing, as if he can read the duel. That’s top-level stuff.”
Physically, Doué is above the norm for such performances at just 19 years of age. Of course, there’s talent. But the work put in to reach this level and the seriousness of his lifestyle are also crucial.
Today, the former Rennes player is establishing himself as one of the strong links in the Parisian team under Luis Enrique. We’re obviously expecting him to finish the season on a high, particularly in Europe, where PSG can write a fine page in their history.
