Jackie Groenen, the 31-year-old Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, has officially extended her contract until 2029. Speaking to PSG TV, she discussed the extension while also sharing her fondest memories and her ambitions in the Red and Blue jersey.
Groenen: “I hope to experience great moments with the club and the girls.”
What does extending your contract with PSG mean to you?
“It’s a dream to stay here. I really feel at home; it’s my second home. I’m very happy to be staying. I hope to experience great moments with the club and the girls.”
What is your first memory at the club?
“Going to training with incredible players. I realized it was a whole new level and that I needed to improve. That was my initial feeling.”
Groenen: “I really believe in the project.”
What motivated you to stay at the club?
“I feel so good with the club and the people who work here. I really believe in the project. We’ve had our ups and downs, but I always feel at home.”
With your experience, how would you define your role in the team?
“I feel a sense of responsibility toward the young players coming up. It’s not always easy to strike the right balance between being yourself and fitting into a group. I always try to offer them little tips to help them out.”
Do you look to other sports for inspiration in your daily life?
“Yes, of course; as an athlete, you shouldn’t limit yourself to just football. There are many little things you can take from other sports. Even when I go to watch handball, I look at Luc (Steins) and his movements for inspiration.”
Groenen: “I hope to be here for a long time.”
What kind of legacy do you want to create at PSG?
“I think we can move up and win titles. It’s important for the club. We have the example set by the men’s team. And I hope to be here for a long time.”
Do you have a message for the fans?
“I’d like to thank the club and the fans. I’m very proud to be here and to play in these colors. I hope you’ll come to our matches; we need you, too.”
