As part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the French national team was at Laugardalsvöllur this Monday to face Iceland and drew 2-2. The match involved two Paris Saint-Germain players, both French: Lucas Chevalier (23-year-old goalkeeper) and Lucas Hernandez (29-year-old defender). Here are the press ratings for Les Bleus.

Nkunku (5.5) – Olise (3) – Thauvin (3.5)
Camavinga (3.5) – Koné (4)
Digne (6) – Upamecano (4) – Saliba (4) – Koundé (4)
Maignan (4)
L’Equipe:
Mateta (5)
Nkunku (6) – Olise (5) – Thauvin (4)
Camavinga (4) – Koné (4)
Digne (6) – Upamecano (3) – Saliba (3) – Koundé (3)
Maignan (4)
Unfortunately, these scores seem well-deserved for a team that was generally disappointing against a combative Icelandic side. They lacked the creativity and intensity to achieve a better result. Some players still managed to show some good things at times, including goals from Mateta and Nkunku that somewhat made up for the shortcomings on the wings. But it’s not enough.
Les Bleus continue to be inconsistent. There were many absentees, certainly. We’d still like to see a certain “base” for such a selection. At least, qualification for the World Cup isn’t in jeopardy yet, with the three previous victories. We can’t afford to miss out in November.
