Isabela Ferreira Costa Das Chagas, a 24-year-old Brazilian left-back from Cruzeiro, has signed with Paris Saint-Germain. On the club’s official website, she talks about her emotions, her career path with Inter, Corinthians, and Cruzeiro, and her ambitious goals: winning trophies with PSG.
Isabela: “My life is crazy!”
I am so happy. It’s a dream come true. My life is crazy. Everything changed in an instant. Yesterday I was still in Brazil, and now I’m here. I don’t know what to say, I can only thank God. I think I’ve come a long way in my career. I played for Inter, Corinthians, and Cruzeiro.
Isabela: “It could only be PSG”
The next step had to be joining a team in Europe, and it could only be PSG. When I was younger, at the school where I played, everyone had a nickname. I played with my brother, who had the nickname Chagas, his family name. I had to come up with one for myself. They called me Belinha.
But back then, I was very small. A woman of my current height can’t be called Belinha. I think the style of play at Cruzeiro, their tactical understanding, will help me a lot here. I admit I’m a little nervous about arriving in an unfamiliar place, leaving everything behind.
Isabela: “It’s scary, but it’s a positive kind of fear”
I only received one phone call from them: “Pack your bags and come.” It’s scary, but it’s a positive kind of fear. I’m already thrilled with what I’ve seen of the city so far, and I hope to be very happy here. I would say that all athletes dream of winning trophies. So I hope to win the Coupe de France and, if God wills it, the Champions League. I’m looking forward to meeting the Paris Saint-Germain fans. This is Paris!
