Nuno Mendes, Paris Saint-Germain’s 22-year-old left-back, spoke to beIN SPORTS after the 1-1 penalty shoot-out victory over Lens in the round of 32 of the Coupe de France 2024-2025 at Stade Bollaert on Sunday. He spoke of his side’s qualification, which was certainly pleasing, even if it came at the end of a tough performance.
Nuno Mendes “It’s not the match we wanted to play.”
Do you feel liberated?
Good evening, we’re very happy with this victory. It’s not the match we wanted to play, we were all over the place in the first 90 minutes. We took the penalties well and we’re leaving here with a win, which is more important.
Nuno Mendes “anything can happen and we have to be focused.”
How do you explain the difficulty of the game?
Yes, it was complicated. They’re a good team on the other side, so the pitch was a bit tough. But we managed to come away with the win, and that’s the most important thing for us. Now we’ll rest up and come back next year.
Will you be playing a small team in the next round?
It’s a cup match, anything can happen and we need to be focused.
