This Saturday, as part of the 18th day of Ligue 1 2024-2025, Paris Saint-Germain (1st) take on Lens (7th) at Stade Bollaert (kick-off 5pm, broadcast on beIN SPORTS in France). Jérémie Pignard (37) has been chosen to referee the match. He has extensive experience in Ligue 1, having played 91 matches.
He will be assisted by Laurent Coniglio and Thomas Luczynski. Gaël Angoula will act as 4th referee. Video assistance will be provided by Nicolas Rainville and Abdelatif Kherradji.
Yellow cards –
With Mr. Pignard at the whistle, we can expect yellow cards to be handed out very quickly during the match. Indeed, while the national average per match is 3.53 (standard deviation 0.39), Saturday’s referee has given an average of 3.99 yellows per match in his entire Ligue 1 career (Transfermarkt figures). Let’s hope we don’t forget the dialogue. At the very least, the players should be “protected”.
Direct red cards –
The man on the whistle this Saturday is less severe when it comes to direct exclusions, as he has a “normal” tendency when it comes to handing out direct red cards. In fact, Pignard has issued 0.17 exclusions per match in his career, whereas the national average per match is 0.17 (standard deviation 0.07). So there’s no question of over-sanctioning either.
Second yellow cards –
Jérémie Pignard has a habit of sending off a player after his first yellow card in a match, as he has given the same player a second warning an average of 0.14 times per match. This is well above the national average of 0.09 (standard deviation 0.03). With a lot of yellows to start with, and reds that aren’t scary, it’s pretty logical.
Penaltys –
Finally, as far as penalties are concerned, the man on the whistle on Saturday is also higher than average, with 0.41 penalties whistled per match, compared with the Ligue 1 average of 0.34 (standard deviation 0.08).
