On Wednesday, in a rescheduled match from Matchday 29 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain faced Lens at the Stade Bollaert and won 2-0. Speaking to PSG TV, 26-year-old Parisian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov commented on the result and the league title.
Safonov: “We can say we did a very good job.”
“Everyone deserves credit. When you look at this match, when you look at our season, you can say we did a very good job. And we’re happy that we achieved our objective today; it was very important for us to win here.
And we have a lot of respect for Lens because the match was very difficult for us. They play very well. But we are French champions, and congratulations to everyone. My saves? I just did my job.”
A hard-fought victory for PSG, who secured the French league title on the pitch of their closest rivals. After an intense and closely contested season between these two teams, the title was decided in the penultimate match of the 2025/2026 season. In this encounter, RC Lens clearly lacked a bit of luck and, above all, came up against a superb Safonov.
PSG were clinical in front of goal, punishing them when the opportunity arose. Lens have no regrets. Their season has been exceptional, and their performance on Wednesday deserves praise. For their part, the capital club can savor their title before turning their attention to the Champions League final against Arsenal in Budapest on May 30th.”
