After a masterful Classico against Olympique de Marseille, PSG had to confirm their form against a tough Lens side. We found some good play and a certain dominance, but also some inefficiency. This is regrettable, and needs to be addressed if we are to achieve all our objectives. But it’s fair to say that Paris has put in some good performances. With more work to be done, of course.

This victory also puts AS Monaco firmly in the driving seat, after their surprise 0-1 opening-day defeat by Angers. This keeps them in 5th place, despite Saint-Etienne’s success against Strasbourg – another surprise, albeit a smaller one – and Le Havre’s victory over Montpellier. These results are vital in the race to stay up.

At the top of the table, OM managed to bounce back at Nantes to take 2nd place on goal difference, while leaving the Nantes outfit to worry. Lille and Lyon drew, leaving Nice with a win that leaves Brest in mid-table. Le Havre (17th) are only 5 points behind 7th-placed Lens.

Last but not least, Rennes slipped alarmingly, suffering a heavy 4-0 defeat at Auxerre. This could be the end for coach Julien Stéphan on the Breton club’s bench.
