On Matchday 33 of Ligue 1 2024-2025, Paris Saint-Germain beat Montpellier 1-4 at Stade de la Mosson. Which doesn’t change much, so other matches had big consequences.

PSG were simply playing for confidence, rhythm and preparation, and they did it well against a Montpellier already 18th. All in rotation, Paris won. But the main thing was on the other fields.

The race for Europe has been extremely tight for a very long time, but was partly decided this evening. Olympique de Marseille and AS Monaco won against Le Havre, who are in danger of staying up, and Lyon, who are struggling but not out of Europe.

At the same time, Lille, Nice and Strasbourg missed the boat, propelling Marseille and Monaco into the Champions League and giving Lyon hope. Respectively, they fell to Brest, Rennes and Angevins. The first two are playing for nothing more than pleasure and a few places, while the last two have secured their place.

That’s not yet the case for Nantes, who drew at Auxerre. Saint-Etienne, meanwhile, managed to keep their hopes alive with a precious win at Reims, still in danger after their defeat. So there’s still a lot at stake on the final day next Saturday, even if it’s settled for some.
