Ligue 1 - Day 34: Europe and survival still up for grabs

PSG are already champions and will be celebrating at the Parc des Princes, while preparing for the Coupe de France and Champions League finals against Reims (May 24) and Inter Milan (May 31). Auxerre will be between 10th and 12th, so the stakes are limited. Above all, we’re hoping to see a good match with some spectacle.

Behind Paris, Olympique de Marseille (2nd) and AS Monaco (3rd) are fighting for their place on the podium against Rennes, in the same situation as Auxerre, and Lens. The 9th-placed team can still dream of European qualification by finishing 8th, should Olympique Lyonnais finish 7th and be disqualified for financial reasons.

The heart of the battle is between Nice (4th), Lille (5th) and Strasbourg (6th). And with varying opponents. Les Niçois face a Brest team who were very interesting against Lille last weekend (2-0) and who can try to dream like Lens. Even if it’s a long way off. While Lillois and Strasbourgeois face opponents fighting for survival: Reims are 14th and Le Havre 16th. The battle promises to be intense.

Behind them, there’s still Saint-Etienne (17th), who still have hope thanks to their 2-0 win over Reims (who now find themselves in danger) and will be giving their all at home to Toulouse. The 12th-placed team has little left to play for, but is still a tough opponent. Nothing will be easy. In particular, we’ll have to deal with the possible frustration of playing against a team that defends particularly well.
