On matchday 5 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain will face Olympique de Marseille at the Stade Vélodrome this Sunday at 8:45 PM. This is a highly anticipated match, but it’s not the only one.

Paris traveling to Marseille is always a highly anticipated event. Especially since the Marseille fans have a bit more hope than at the Parc des Princes of pulling off the upset and beating PSG. A few days after their “only” 2-1 defeat against Real Madrid (matchday 1 of the Champions League), such a victory would be resounding. But be warned, the Parisians seem to be in good form and will want to continue their perfect start to the season.

This could, perhaps, help them pull away from Lille, the second-placed team, which is the only other club that hasn’t lost in Ligue 1 so far. The trip to Lens this weekend promises to be tense and difficult, another special match in the league. It features two good teams, and the result is very hard to predict.

Monaco (3rd) and Lyon (4th) could take advantage of these top-table matches by picking up wins against Metz (18th) and Angers (12th), who seem to be very vulnerable. Especially for Monaco, against a team that only has one point. Even though we know that football is far from that simple.

Strasbourg (5th) has a match away against a promoted team, but they should be wary of Paris FC (11th), who invested well in the summer and are on the rise. This will be an interesting test.

We shouldn’t forget another derby, between Nantes (14th) and Rennes (6th). Nantes needs to pick up some points to ease the pressure of a very difficult start to the season, while Rennes needs to win to confirm their strong position in the race for European qualification. At the bottom of the table, Le Havre (13th) and Lorient (16th) desperately need points; Lorient in particular is looking to improve their defense after conceding 11 goals in their last two matches. Brest (17th) must quickly break out of their losing streak, but the task won’t be easy against Nice (9th).
