To close out the matchday, PSG had to fight until the very end to secure the victory. They were largely in control and didn’t concede many clear-cut chances. However, Lyon proved clinical against an uninspired Lucas Chevalier. The Parisians deserve credit for never panicking and for pushing until the final whistle. This was essential to maintain their first-place position going into the international break.

Indeed, Olympique de Marseille secured a comfortable win against Brest, who confirmed their current struggles, including a shaky goalkeeper who made a costly error leading to the opening goal. Then, Monaco confirmed their own cause for concern, with a red card for Folarin Balogun at 1-2 allowing Lens to solidify their place in the European race. The 1-4 defeat also highlighted Monaco’s recent struggles.

The other big upset at the top of the table came from Strasbourg with a valuable victory against Lille in a very tight match (5 shots to 6, 49% possession) thanks to a brace from Emmanuel Emegha. This was enough to overtake their opponents, who were understandably frustrated. We can also note that Rennes’ climb up the table continues with a win against Paris FC. It was a hard-fought victory, but the points are there, and Habib Beye is still defending a position that was under serious threat not long ago.

Speaking of climbing the table, how can we overlook Metz, who turned the tide against Nice to snatch a late victory? This allowed them to secure a third consecutive victory, something almost unthinkable three matchdays ago when they had only two points. For Nice, it’s a very frustrating result after their European defeat on Thursday.

Around Metz, in the relegation battle, Angers pulled off a significant victory with a 2-0 win against an Auxerre side that is starting to look shaky despite their desire to play attractive football. Lorient earned a valuable point against a Toulouse team still lacking consistency to secure European qualification. Le Havre and Nantes can only be pleased with their 1-1 draw, even though a defeat would have been worse.
