On Matchday 2 of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain snatched a 2-2 draw against Lille at the Stade Pierre Mauroy. It was a result that pleased no one, leaving AS Monaco alone at the top of the table ahead of several clubs sitting on four points.

PSG once again made a statement this weekend by coming back from a 2-0 deficit away against a strong side, though they ultimately walked away with just a single point. There is no cause for alarm, but they will need to pick up the pace soon. Lille, meanwhile, are left with regrets after conceding two goals past the 90th minute—especially the final one right at the end of stoppage time. Then again, that is part of the game; every second counts.

Good news for both Paris and Lille is that no significant gap has opened up between them and the rest of the pack just yet. Lens and Lyon both failed to win a second consecutive match. Lens fell to a spirited Strasbourg side—who bounced back well from their heavy defeat at the Vélodrome—thanks to a brace from young talent Gessime Yassine (a 20-year-old forward). As for Lyon, their Champions League qualifying exit against Fenerbahçe clearly hadn’t been fully put behind them, resulting in a 1-1 home draw against Le Havre.

Only AS Monaco managed to keep their winning momentum going, prevailing in a hard-fought encounter against Olympique de Marseille. Marseille’s own momentum was quickly halted, bringing them back down to earth after the euphoria surrounding their 4-0 victory over Strasbourg the previous weekend; the impact of a transfer window marked by numerous departures was felt more acutely this time around. Further down the table last season, Paris FC got their campaign off to a perfect start at home with a fine win over Nice—a side already facing renewed uncertainty following their relegation play-off survival last term.

Finally, newly promoted Troyes have picked up points that could prove crucial for survival, securing a 2–1 victory away at Lorient. Meanwhile, Les Merlus are a far cry from the European qualification they nearly achieved last season. Concern is already mounting at Auxerre—who had to fight hard to stay in Ligue 1—after two defeats and eight goals conceded so far.
