Ligue 1 – Key takeaways from Matchday 24: PSG extends its lead, OM overturns Lyon's lead

PSG regained their rhythm, but not their finishing touch. They dominated Le Havre, but couldn’t secure a decisive victory. At least the job is done, and they secured the three points against a tough opponent. That’s the main thing; the Parisians have finally extended their lead in the league.

Indeed, Lens conceded a rather frustrating draw in Strasbourg despite creating more chances. After a period of high efficiency, Lens have slowed down somewhat, becoming less clinical in front of goal. This is part of the season; they’ll have to manage this phase, with the inevitable frustration at the end of a somewhat magical period.

After that, OM made a big statement despite twice falling behind. It was far from undeserved, with 19 shots to 11, and a 57% success rate from 8 corners to 1 in their favor. But Lyon had opened the scoring in the 3rd minute (Tolisso), they had to fight hard for the equalizer (52nd minute, Paixão), and then Rémi Himbert made it 2-0 in the 76th minute. But Marseille responded in the 81st minute (Aubameyang) before snatching victory in the 91st (Aubameyang’s second goal). A very important win for the standings and for calming the pressure.

Stade Rennais takes advantage to move up the table, securing a second consecutive victory for coach Franck Haise and the third overall. This came at the end of a fairly convincing match against Toulouse, who are still struggling to string together consistent performances to truly secure a European place.

Monaco, on the other hand, managed to get back on track and put their Champions League playoff elimination behind them. This came after a difficult, cagey match against an Angers side that is always tricky to play against (5 shots to 5, 80% possession for Monaco). Lille were thus under pressure but managed to avoid the Nantes trap. The 1-0 victory doesn’t entirely reassure them about their lack of efficiency in 2026, but it does secure the 3 points.

These points will be a huge boost for Paris FC after their victory in a close tie against Nice, who continue to be concerned about their position in the standings. Auxerre only managed a point in Lorient, but that’s better than nothing and encouraging against a team in good form for 2026. However, this 2-2 draw seems to confirm that Lorient isn’t quite ready for European competition.

Brest is also a bit far off, but they did manage a hard-fought victory in Metz despite a red card in the 22nd minute. This was thanks to the ever-present Ludovic Ajorque. Conversely, it’s a very worrying scenario for Metz, who seem to lack the resources to avoid relegation.
