PSG faced a tough away match against Nice, a team battling relegation and recently revitalized after their Champions League Round of 16 run. This prompted coach Luis Enrique to make some bold tactical decisions, which paid off. A well-managed performance to defend first place, with a game in hand, especially after Lens had applied some impressive pressure.

Indeed, Lens thrashed Angers earlier this weekend, moving closer to Champions League qualification while keeping their title hopes alive. A result of little consequence for the opponent, who should finish in mid-table.

The matches were far more noteworthy between Olympique Lyonnais and AS Monaco, as well as Olympique de Marseille and Lille. Lyon lost after opening the scoring in a hard-fought match, with (as is too often the case) controversies surrounding the refereeing. Lille’s victory in Marseille, also a reversal of fortunes, contributes to the same trend: a tightening race for European qualification, except for the top two.

Behind them, Rennes failed to capitalize, as their setback against LOSC last weekend was confirmed with a draw against Metz at home. For Metz, it’s an encouraging point, but it might not be enough. It’s still better than Nantes, who lost in the final minutes against Strasbourg despite a promising performance from the 17th-placed side. For Strasbourg, this victory keeps them in contention for a European spot.

The weekend was also marked by Auxerre’s stunning upset against Brest: despite a red card in the 6th minute, Auxerre showed great determination and strength on set pieces to secure a 3-0 win against a lackluster Brest side.

The victory of Paris FC against Le Havre shouldn’t be underestimated, especially considering the spectacular match and the red card in the 55th minute. It was a crucial match in the fight to avoid relegation. Finally, Toulouse rekindled a glimmer of European hope with their win against Lorient, but both teams have lacked consistency recently, making it difficult to believe they can still qualify.
