On Matchday 6 of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain secured a 3-1 victory over Le Mans at the Parc des Princes. It was not a particularly thrilling match, but it allowed them to close the gap on the league leaders.

PSG did not dazzle with their heavily rotated squad, but they accomplished their mission: a win without any injuries. That is a significant achievement coming off the international break. Furthermore, the points helped narrow the gap to the top spot.
Indeed, AS Monaco stumbled again—just as they had before the break—drawing 2-2 with Toulouse after two very different halves of football. The 2-0 scoreline at halftime was just as logical as the final result. Toulouse demonstrated once again that they are playing good football; they just need to find the spark to start winning games. Still, securing a point against Monaco is a valuable result.
Another major result of the weekend saw Lens get the better of Lyon. While not a huge surprise in itself, it is particularly noteworthy given the league standings. Lens can breathe a little easier as the season resumes, whereas Lyon need to quickly regain their momentum to avoid sliding down the table. In fact, Lille managed to overtake OL, albeit without shining. They trailed in shots (5 to 15) and possession (45% to 55%), even though Le Havre had a player sent off in the 61st minute. However, the points are what matter most, while Le Havre are left with plenty of regrets.
Paris FC also failed to pick up points; they faced a solid Lorient side that stifled the Parisians and scored a goal that was thoroughly deserved. We will have to watch for PFC’s reaction, while remaining wary of the Lorient side—just as was the case last season.
Strasbourg is also stalling after another defeat, this time against an OGC Nice team confirming its upward momentum and pulling away from the relegation zone that haunted them last season. Mind you, the standings remain very tight. OM is also taking the opportunity to climb the table following a hard-fought win at Troyes—a team that has only itself to blame given its lack of clinical finishing (despite a 13-to-6 shot count).
Finally, Rennes has solidified its position among the European contenders; the scoreline perhaps flattered them slightly (13 shots to 8, 59% possession), as two goals came in stoppage time against an Auxerre side that played well but went unrewarded.
