During Matchday 26 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain will face Nantes at the Parc des Princes during the week of Wednesday, April 22nd, following a postponement granted to allow them to best prepare for the Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Chelsea (next Tuesday). However, there are already important matches this weekend.

The title race and the relegation battle will have to wait for certainty with the postponement of PSG/Nantes, which has sparked anger. Adaptation is necessary, that much is clear. Lens (2nd) could take advantage of this to put pressure on the league by taking first place with a victory in Lorient. Beware, the 10th-placed team has been difficult to beat recently, especially at home. They could be caught out, while Lorient can still dream of qualifying for Europe.

On this side, the weekend’s big match will be the closing fixture, with Rennes (5th) hosting Lille (6th) on a four-game winning streak. Lille are showing signs of improvement in March 2026 after a disappointing start to the year, and they’ll need to maintain this momentum without dwelling too much on the Europa League. A Rennes victory could create significant breathing room. This is especially true if Monaco (7th) stumble against Brest (9th) in another exciting encounter between two teams enjoying excellent form. Monaco are looking to continue their climb up the table, while Brest will be looking to establish themselves in the standings.

Around them, Marseille (3rd) are the favorites against Auxerre (16th), but we know that a football match is never over until it’s over, and Auxerre are coming off a valuable point against Strasbourg. The 8th-placed side will be looking to bounce back against Paris FC, currently 13th and fighting to avoid relegation.

It’s a similar situation for Lyon (4th) and Le Havre (14th), except that Le Havre is in a very poor run of form, which could raise concerns. The same goes for Toulouse (12th), who need to stop their slide with a trip to Metz. But the 18th-placed team should still be fighting back, as there’s still hope.
