As after every round of the league, L’Équipe has released its Team of the Week for Matchday 5 of Ligue 1 2025–2026, which was played this past weekend (see results and standings here). Following Paris Saint-Germain’s 1–0 defeat to Olympique de Marseille (OM/PSG video highlights) at the Stade Vélodrome, no PSG players were selected.

It’s hardly surprising, given that PSG mainly lost due to their own mistakes. Marseille weren’t particularly brilliant; their strength lay in their high level of commitment and aggressiveness. Two OM players did make the Team of the Week — almost modest considering the “perfect match” described by some observers.

Paris underperformed slightly (though they dominated possession at 69% and had 12 shots to Marseille’s 9, with 5 on target compared to 2). The Parisians didn’t fail entirely, but they were below their usual level. Offensively, this was understandable, with three attackers absent. That’s football — and both teams will need to move on and focus on the next challenges.
