Ligue 1 - Matchday 21 review: PSG and OM pull away

PSG hit the ground running on Friday with a 4-1 victory over Monaco, now in 4th place, who were able to cause problems but not totally resist the Parisians. They are now preparing almost perfectly for the first leg of their Champions League play-off against Brest this Tuesday at 6.45pm. Brest also took all 3 points at Nantes. This leaves Nantes on the brink of relegation, while Brest remain within touching distance of Europe.

Meanwhile, Olympique de Marseille consolidated their 2nd place by taking a 6-point lead over Monaco thanks to their win in Angers (13th)… And Nice, in 3rd place again, recorded a fine victory over Lens (7th). Lens remain in the race, but are still struggling to get back on track. Lyon took advantage of the situation to move back ahead on goal difference with a 4-0 victory over Reims.

Lille, now in 5th place after losing at home to Le Havre, are doing very badly. Lille, for their part, have pulled off a huge coup to move out of last place. This is left to Montpellier, who lost to Strasbourg, well down the middle of the table and who will need to confirm their position if they are to have any chance of European success. Finally, Rennes confirmed that things are looking up under coach Habib Beye with a second consecutive victory, this time over Saint-Etienne, a contender for survival.
