Paris Saint-Germain will very likely be crowned French champions, with a 6-point lead and a 15-point advantage on goal difference, as they prepare to face Lens tonight (a rescheduled match from Matchday 29 of Ligue 1) before the final round of fixtures this Sunday. The celebrations are therefore underway, and according to L’Equipe, they are shaping up to be somewhat complicated for PSG, who will be facing Paris FC. This is partly because PFC has other plans.

“Paris FC has received a request from the Professional Football League (LFP) to host the presentation of the French championship trophy to PSG on Sunday, following the match between the two clubs at the Stade Jean-Bouin, as part of the 34th and final matchday.

This request is not ideal for the newly promoted side, who have planned festivities for this final match of the season, including a tribute to players whose contracts are expiring and a fireworks display. PSG may be invited to Paris City Hall to celebrate their title.”

Yesterday, we learned that the Paris police prefecture refused permission for a celebration at the Parc des Princes, extending as far as the Jean Bouin stadium. This was likely to avoid a large crowd surge. But a celebration is definitely needed for this Ligue 1 title, which cannot be ignored. The Paris City Hall could be part of the solution; it remains to be seen exactly how.

But PSG also needs to secure the championship. Lens will try to reignite the suspense tonight; they need to be careful not to suffer an unpleasant surprise.
