Every month, the UNFP organizes the election of the best player in Ligue 1. For the September 2025 election, one Paris Saint-Germain player was in the final. The competition was between Florian Thauvin (32-year-old striker from FC Lens), Romain Del Castillo (29-year-old midfielder from Brest), and Vitinha (25-year-old midfielder from PSG). Thauvin won.
It’s the supporters’ choice — and it’s hard to argue with that.
You’re never really surprised to see a forward take the spotlight. Still, there’s a sense that the media hype may have played a role this time, with the player in question recording “only” one goal and no assists in September, while Vitinha tallied three assists and Del Castillo produced three goals and two assists.
Of course, stats don’t tell the whole story — we often point that out.
But Vitinha’s influence on the game is hard to match, and Del Castillo remains a key figure for Brest. Thauvin, for his part, has also been a strong contributor for Lens. In the end, it’s just an honorary award, and there’s no such thing as a “robbery” in a fan vote. Still, it’s easy to understand why some supporters are voicing frustration on social media.
