Before PSG’s evening, Lens suffered a surprising and frustrating defeat. Lens were on a roll, AS Monaco are managing the Champions League playoffs, they had more shots (19 to 9), and, most importantly, they led 2-0 until the 62nd minute. Ten minutes later, Monaco took the lead. Lens couldn’t recover and suffered a setback that could be painful.

Perhaps not as painful as Marseille’s defeat in Brest, a loss that seems to prolong their crisis. There were more shots (12 to 14) and more possession (67%), but that’s not enough to celebrate after another defeat. This defeat marks the beginning of Habib Beye’s tenure as coach during a turbulent period. The challenge is significant, even if there were some positive aspects to their play.

Conversely, Rennes made a perfect start under their new coach, Franck Haise, who replaced Beye. A 3-0 victory can only be a boost and allows them to build on their win against PSG. Rennes are getting back on track for Europe, while Auxerre, who showed flashes of promise, continue to rue missed opportunities.

On the European front, Lille finally bounced back after a disastrous start to the year with a narrow victory against an Angers side that is still capable of good moments, but seems to lack the firepower to pull off the major upset of qualifying at the end of the season.

It remains entirely possible for Lyon to avoid relegation despite their 3-1 defeat in Strasbourg, but it’s still a significant setback, with Lyon’s winning streak ending and Strasbourg outshooting them 14-4. Strasbourg, meanwhile, have climbed back up the table in this tight battle.

Relegation battles continued with the draw between Paris FC and Toulouse, which confirmed the departure of coach Stéphane Gilli from PFC, a move that had seemed inevitable. He is expected to be replaced by Antoine Kombouaré. However, the point earned isn’t a bad result, and it’s more of a win for Toulouse. They dominated the match (19 shots to 5, 56% possession, and 12 corners to 6), but failed to capitalize on their advantage to secure crucial points and improve their chances of qualifying for Europe. PFC, on the other hand, earned a point that counts towards their survival, but it’s not much, and their performance was far from encouraging.

Especially since FC Nantes bounced back in Le Havre and are putting pressure on in the relegation battle. Which is far from over at the moment. Nice, who secured a spectacular 3-3 draw against a Lorient side enjoying a good run of form, should be wary.
