As part of Matchday 7 of Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain traveled to face LOSC Lille at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy (1–1). Speaking to PSG TV after the match, 23-year-old fullback Nuno Mendes reflected on the result.
Mendes: “There was a lot of emotion around the win in Barcelona”
“I think we played well, we were strong. We were more aggressive in every situation. But that’s football — they managed to get close to our goal two or three times, and they scored. There was a lot of emotion around the win in Barcelona, but that’s no excuse. It’s a game we didn’t manage to win, but we’ll keep working. We’ll try to do better in the next one.”
It was a controlled match from Paris, though they were forced to settle for a draw. The result remains positive given the circumstances — PSG had just beaten Barcelona 2–1 away in the Champions League with a depleted squad. Coming away from Lille with a point is still an impressive performance.
With results like these, there’s every reason to look forward to the return of key players. It shows a team and a collective strong enough to keep achieving positive results despite setbacks. The international break will allow several Paris players to rest and, hopefully, return in good shape in about ten days for the next domestic and European fixtures.
