Paris Saint-Germain secured a 0-2 victory over Liverpool this Tuesday at Anfield in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals (0-4 on aggregate). Following the win, 31-year-old captain Marquinhos spoke to Canal+.
Marquinhos: “Liverpool used their weapons, but we stayed strong”
That goal-line clearance in the first half?
“For a defender, that’s better than scoring a goal. It’s a moment I really savour. I saw the goalkeeper make a save, I turned around, and I lunged for the tackle. Those are the moments that change a match. We defended well. Liverpool used their weapons, but we stayed strong. Eventually, we managed to score. You have to know how to do that—to stay resilient when things get difficult.”
Marquinhos: “We knew the tie wasn’t over yet”
Has PSG grown up?
“Yes, you can see the maturity of this team. We’ve learned to use certain moments to gain experience, suffering when we had to. We knew we weren’t through yet after the first leg; the mindset was to win. We didn’t manage to clinical in the first half, but it came eventually.”
