Marquinhos: “We’re still hungry”

Does tonight’s victory show that you’re still contenders for the title? Three consecutive semi-finals, is that significant?

I think we’re still hungry for this season. But we know how difficult it is to win the Champions League. Even today, we had to suffer, prevent goals. There are details that can change everything.

We’ve shown once again that we can achieve great things. We know how to suffer and have periods of dominance, how to score. We have a team with a lot of experience. We’ve experienced difficult times, and good times too. We must keep going.

Marquinhos: “I am very grateful to Italian football.”

Did Italy contribute to your footballing development? You’re a master of defense; did you learn a lot in Italy?

Absolutely, Italy was important for me, even if it was only for one season (at AS Roma, 2012-2013). I had a coach who really liked fast defenders who could cover. He helped me improve, he pushed me out of my comfort zone. He taught me a lot. I’ve had players here at PSG who came through Italy and who have contributed to my development, like Thiago Silva, Maxwell, and Thiago Motta. I am very grateful to Italian football.

Marquinhos: “You have to know how to suffer.”

Did Liverpool cause problems this time?

They had nothing to lose, so they pushed forward more. They used their physical strength with long balls. But we know our strengths and weaknesses. We wanted to play to our strengths, just like them. We were smart to defend well even when it wasn’t our strongest area. You have to be able to suffer and not concede goals; knowing how to defend is very important.
