Luis Campos, sporting advisor to Paris Saint-Germain since 2022, spoke to Téléfoot about PSG’s transfer window strategy, particularly regarding their recruitment criteria.
Campos: “On the medium and long term.”
“From day one, I spoke with the president. We always thought about building a project not just focused on the short term, but also on the medium and long term. Our idea is to bring in younger talents, capable of playing well together, and at the same time, intelligent players. We’re not just looking for players who are fast, intense, or technically gifted.”
Campos: “Withstanding the pressure at a club like PSG.”
“We’re looking for players who are very strong as a team and who can handle the pressure at a club like PSG. It’s a collaborative effort, and the coach has done an extraordinary job.” We all share this dream of having a more Parisian, more French team.
Clearly, PSG is looking to build a complete squad that will progress over the long term. The idea is to primarily recruit young talents and nurture their development. This comes with one essential condition: a genuine collective vision. The team is the priority; you have to embrace this philosophy.
And you also have to be able to adapt to the unique lifestyle at PSG. There are certain expectations and pressures, which go hand in hand with the club’s ambition and media prominence. These are factors that aren’t always easy to assess from the outside, and you have to keep that in mind before stating, almost as if lecturing, that Paris should recruit this or that player.
