Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon faced off this Saturday at Groupama Stadium for the 23rd day of Ligue 1 2024-2025. The match ended in a 2-3 Parisian victory. After the match, Lyon coach Paulo Fonseca spoke at a press conference.
“They’re very, very strong. They have the ability to build a great team. The last two years, the best team. Luis Enrique and his players deserve a lot of credit. You also have to underline the individual quality of the players, which also makes the difference, but I think we have a lot of qualities too.”
Fonseca doesn’t beat about the bush, even though he would no doubt have liked his team to have managed a few situations a little better in order to secure at least a draw. But he is well aware that PSG are in good shape, with a strong collective that has been built up. They need to put in a top-class performance if they are to hold their own.
The Lyonnais were able to do just that at times, particularly towards the end. Perhaps this was partly because the Parisians were too much in control. Some people regret that Lyon didn’t push as hard from the start. But we mustn’t forget that PSG also had opportunities to score more goals, and that it would have been difficult for Lyon to hold out for the whole match.
