On Sunday evening, Paris Saint-Germain defeated Olympique Lyonnais 3-2 in Matchday 12 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season at Groupama Stadium. Here are the highs and lows of this victory.
Highlights –
Vitinha
The 25-year-old midfielder continues to impress with his full range of skills, including his passing ability. He provided the decisive pass for Warren Zaïre-Emery, along with several other gems. Notably, he delivered a half-volley to turn the game around. His defensive work rate and his tackle on PSG’s second goal should also be noted. Unfortunately, he sometimes seems a bit isolated in terms of creating chances at the moment.
Determination and set pieces to move forward.
PSG faces more obstacles than last season in Ligue 1, but they have the resources. Conte, after Nice last Saturday and this time in Lyon, is giving his all to secure the three points. This also means relying on corners, as PSG has been much more dangerous from set pieces this season. It was Gonçalo Ramos last week, and this time it’s João Neves who gets the ball.
Flops –
Lucas Chevalier.
It takes time and adaptation, we know that. But the observation is clear: his start to the season has been a disappointment. His footwork is clean, but it’s not a major weapon (unlike Manuel Neuer against PSG, for example). Most importantly, almost every dangerous chance he concedes results in goals. He lacks decisive saves and even…stops. There are at least two questionable positioning decisions and some shaky aerial clearances. He’ll have to break out of this negative spiral.
Ilya Zabarnyi
The 23-year-old defender is PSG’s other signing this summer, and his adaptation will also be a concern. Even though his promising start suggested a quick adjustment, the Ukrainian has lost strength in duels and confidence in both his passing and tackles. His near-handling error during a corner is a prime example.
