Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos, 31, spoke to FIFA’s website ahead of the Club World Cup. He talks about the excitement of discovering this new competition and stresses the importance of PSG’s DNA, while praising Luis Enrique’s demands and impact on the Parisian squad.
Marquinhos “It’s going to be very interesting, because there are going to be some of the biggest clubs in the world”.
“It’s going to be a new experience for us, as it is for all the other teams involved. It’s going to be very interesting, because the biggest clubs in the world are going to be there, and we’ll be playing against opponents we’re not used to meeting. In every competition, PSG’s ambition is to be among the best. We know that the road ahead will be long and difficult, but we’re really looking forward to discovering what this kind of competition can be like.
Marquinhos “We want to show our DNA”.
PSG’s objective is always very high. I think the club has already demonstrated its strength and philosophy. In all competitions, our team is fighting to be among the best and to win the title. But as I said, it’s always hard work. It’s a big club, and one that never stops growing. We want to show our DNA and our desire on the pitch to win over more and more fans.
Marquinhos “He’s a very demanding person”.
Luis Enrique
There’s no doubt about it, he’s one of the best coaches in the world. He demonstrates this every day with all his players. He’s a very demanding man, who’s very clear with his players and always brings something extra to the table. At every match, he directs us to perfection, giving us the benefit of everything he’s learned over the years. I think that’s what makes him such a great coach. His philosophy, his high standards, his experience.”
Paris Saint-Germain is about to write a new page in its history by taking part in the Club World Cup, an unprecedented competition for the club and its entire squad. After an exceptional season marked by major titles and undisputed domestic domination, PSG is approaching this new challenge without the pressure of results at all costs.
For Marquinhos and his team-mates, the objective is clear: to take advantage of this adventure to try and win a trophy that no-one has yet lifted in Parisian colors, and why not become the first team to win it all in a single season. Freed by a sense of achievement, the Parisians can play with enthusiasm, curiosity and ambition, without the fear of failure.
This absence of pressure, rare at this level, could well be the key to seeing PSG express themselves fully and aim for the historic feat, while continuing to radiate its DNA on the world stage.
