Marquinhos, 30-year-old captain of Paris Saint-Germain, spoke to Rothen S’enflamme. It was an opportunity for him to talk about the ideal conditions offered to all players at the Parisian club. He also stressed the importance of having the right mentality in the team to achieve objectives and progress. He also spoke of the club’s difficulties in the Champions League, before praising the squad, which includes a number of leaders ready to help the club grow.
Marquinhos “ He tells us that not all clubs have what we have”
More demanding on a daily basis?
Yes, first of all, it comes from our president, and our coach too, on a daily basis. He tells us that not all clubs have what we have.
Marquinhos: “ To be a PSG player, you have to set the bar very high”.
Extra pressure?
To be a PSG player, you have to set the bar very high, have a winning and fighting mentality. It comes with a beautiful Campus, we’re in the best conditions. I was trained at Corinthians, and from a very young age I set the bar very high.
Marquinhos “ It’s the pitch that speaks”.
Winning the Champions League?
We’re going to try every year. We have to believe. It’s the pitch that speaks for itself. We’ve seen how difficult it is, how long a season is and how demanding this competition is. PSG are on the right path to go as far as possible and fight with the big boys.
Marquinhos: “ For me, my team-mates are still the best in the world”.
Starting this year?
For me, my team-mates are always the best in the world. My club is still the best in the world. We can do great things. We have to face the truth, we’re struggling in the standings. We have to think about the next game.
There are a lot of experienced players in our team. You can see that in the dressing room and in matches. I don’t feel too alone. Maybe there isn’t a big name in the team, but there are a lot of leaders, players who take their responsibilities. We feel like a close-knit, strong group. We’re going to fight for all our goals.”
Marquinhos perfectly embodies the evolution and ambitions of Paris Saint-Germain. Having arrived at the club at the age of 19 as a promising young talent, he has become a pillar of the team and its captain at just 26. His career is an important one for the new project, which aims to do what he did with the Parisian captain, i.e. arrive at a very young age to become the club’s most capped player.
The new PSG Campus in Poissy symbolizes this training ambition. This new infrastructure demonstrates the club’s commitment to youth development. Marquinhos, for his part, has since become an executive, present to guide the new generation.
For a club like PSG, which aspires to win the Champions League, high standards are essential. This implies state-of-the-art infrastructures to optimize player performance, as well as targeted recruitment combining young talent and experienced players. Finally, there is also the desire to develop a winning culture and a champion mentality on a daily basis.
But what stands out from other years is the shared desire to create sporting stability and a long-term vision. The new PSG Campus represents an important step in this direction, offering players an environment conducive to excellence.
However, if the club is to achieve its Champions League objective, it will need to maintain these high standards in all aspects of its operations, both on and off the pitch.
