The 2024-2025 winter mercato has arrived (throughout January), so the rumors surrounding Paris Saint-Germain are piling up. Today, Corriere dello Sport reports that PSG and Arsenal are interested in Marco Carnesecchi, Atalanta’s 24-year-old Italian goalkeeper (under contract until 2026).
“It would be difficult to reason about an amount of less than €40-50 million.
“It was inevitable that he would attract the interest of the big English clubs who, as early as the last negotiating session, had taken note of his costs. Arsenal, who are on excellent terms with the player’s agent thanks to the Riccardo Calafiori affair (22), are one of the clubs most interested in the Rimini-born goalkeeper, who has already been closely watched and studied.
In June, PSG could also try their luck. The French outfit are currently carrying out in-depth evaluations and have not ruled out a move for the former Cremonese.
The Dea has not set a real price for the child, but at the moment, it would be difficult to reason on an amount lower than 40-50 million euros.”
We can agree with the Italian newspaper that he’s a great talent who’s making a name for himself at the highest level, and it wouldn’t be surprising if some major clubs were thinking about him. Possibly PSG, where Gianluigi Donnarumma (25) has been unable to convince anyone of his worth due to a number of missed opportunities in the Champions League.
However, as this is just a rumour, we must remain cautious. Perhaps a club will be able to take advantage of the approaching end of his contract, or perhaps this rumour is simply a negotiation tool prior to an extension. That would be classic.
We’ll have to wait and see if this lead is confirmed before really thinking about it. Many players are mentioned every year without the slightest confirmation.
