The 2024 summer mercato is over, but the rumors surrounding Paris Saint-Germain continue. Today, PSG Inside Actus reports that Mateo Retegui, Italy’s 25-year-old striker under contract until 2028 with Atalanta after his transfer last summer from Genoa, is a Parisian prospect. But not a priority.
“Paris Saint-Germain appear to be interested once again in Mateo Retegui, the Argentine-born Italian striker who came close to joining the Parisian club in June 2023 before opting to return to Italy. According to sources close to the club, PSG are considering returning to the case if other leads fail.”
With 11 goals and 3 assists in Serie A (0 in 4 Champions League games), Retegui is off to a great start in the league and may attract some interest. Why not PSG, who could be looking for a striker to act as a real understudy, or even a competitor, for Gonçalo Ramos (23).
However, coach Luis Enrique also likes the option of a “false 9” with Marco Asensio and Lee Kang-In, which has often worked very well in the game.
It’s also made clear that Retegui would only be targeted if other leads failed, so there’s no question of rushing into this recruitment. Not to mention that the Italian and his club are not necessarily particularly tempted. So let’s remain cautious. Rumours are multiplying, without the slightest confirmation.
