Paris Saint-Germain defeated Metz 3-2 this Saturday at the Stade Saint-Symphorien in Matchday 16 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season. After the match, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference.
Enrique: “We lost our balance and control of the game.”
Did Paris get a scare in this match?
“Afraid? Very scared, even. Metz played very well, especially in the second half. They pressed until the very last minute. When you put four or five attackers together and you have to make substitutions out of necessity, you lack midfield support and it becomes difficult. We lost our balance and control of the game in the latter part of the second half.”
Did Quentin Ndjantou score his first professional goal tonight?
“Quentin has been the surprise of the season. He has the qualities to make runs in behind, with and without the ball. He’s a player who starts from the second line; he’s interesting as a midfielder but also as a striker.”
Is Ibrahim Mbaye energized by his selection for Senegal?
“When you give players so many opportunities, it’s because you believe in them. Today, he showed a bit more than he usually does. He was more liberated, felt more comfortable, and made some good plays, both with and without the ball. I’m very happy. There’s one more match for him before he leaves for the Africa Cup of Nations. And when he comes back, we’re ready to give him consistent playing time.”
Enrique: “He hasn’t fully recovered his fitness yet.”
How is Désiré Doué’s return going, after coming on at halftime?
“Good. I’m very happy; he scored a goal.” We’re continuing his recovery process. There’s a difference between recovering from an injury and being at 100%. He hasn’t fully regained his fitness yet, but today he took a step forward. It’s the last league match in 2025, and we’re happy for the fans.
Were you surprised by Metz’s level and performance?
“I think we controlled the match at the beginning. Every time we scored or had the opportunity to do so, they scored. It was difficult because we lost control in the final part of the match.”
Enrique: “We’re going to play one of the best teams in the world.”
PSG will face Flamengo this Wednesday in the Intercontinental Cup. Any thoughts on this opponent?
“We know all their qualities, since we saw them play this summer at the Club World Cup. It will be very difficult; they play very good football and have experience.” The last time I played in this match, there were a lot of differences. This time it will be different; we’re playing one of the best teams in the world. It will be difficult, but that’s a motivation, because it’s an opportunity for PSG.
