FC Nantes welcomed Paris Saint-Germain to the Stade de la Beaujoire on Tuesday evening for their 29th matchday’s late game. And despite Vitinha opening the scoring for the Parisians, the Canaris managed to pull a goal back thanks to Douglas late in the second half (1-1, video highlights Nantes/PSG). FCN defender Kelvin Amian spoke to DAZN about the scoreline and Parisian domination:
Did you run?
Yes… (Laughs)
You were one of the symbols of your team in the 2nd act, did you have the legs to contribute even more?
That was the coach’s instructions. He asked me to be a plunger and go after the Paris defense. He wanted me to play up top and that’s what we did. I had to make runs and that’s what I did, but I also had to come back. I made an effort and so did everyone else, and we had a great game. It’s a shame we don’t play that kind of game against teams with our balance. We need to keep it up.
Amian: “We even wanted to come away with three points from this game”
Is taking 2 points from two games a goal?
We even wanted to come away with three points from this game. We played with 4 men for a few minutes to show that we wanted to take that point, and why not a little more if we had the chance.
If you can do it against PSG, can you do it against any team?
Yes, we have to. Just because they’re big teams doesn’t mean we can keep up. We need to repeat those runs against Le Havre and Toulouse. We’re going to have to keep the same state of mind against the teams with whom we’re battling.
Didn’t you get discouraged by the Parisian substitutions?
Yes, afterwards, we’re so focused on the match and our concentration. When they make the change, I hardly see the substitutions. You have to rely on us too.
When did you believe it?
At half-time the coach was very positive. He said we were defending well. He was really positive and that motivated us to believe because it was only 1-0.
