This Sunday evening, Paris Saint-Germain won 0-1 against Nantes in Matchday 1 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 at the Stade de la Beaujoire. Here are the highlights and highlights of this victory.
Highs –
First match, first (easy) victory
Make no mistake, we’re not going to praise the quality of play of this PSG team on August 17, 2025. That said, it should be noted that preparation or not, PSG is superior to Nantes and made it known. Without going all out, they displayed the same ingredients as last year. They just lacked a little salt and pepper.
Vitinha
Never in trouble, he continues to bring out every ball for his team. For the opponent, it’s becoming difficult to play against him. Vitinha has taken on a new dimension at PSG that we wouldn’t have imagined. As a midfielder, he’s embraced his role and is playing his part wonderfully, even if he, too, isn’t quite at his best yet.
Beraldo/Zabarnyi
Beraldo was very good, very calm. Zabarnyi must have thrown the opposition off balance. In his first match, he’s already showing that he’ll be hard to beat. He plays high up the pitch, he’s tough on the man. He’s a bit like Pacho, with a quality with the extra ball. It’s still too early to praise him, but PSG can pull off a big coup with him.
Flops –
Lee
It’s hard to give a player like Lee a huge flop. He doesn’t do anything wrong, but he doesn’t do anything exceptional. He plays with the ball, but he always does the same thing. It’s repetitive. He takes few risks, and that’s annoying for a player in his position. He doesn’t bring anything extra, but he’s good enough to be enough in Ligue 1.
Nantes
We’ve heard everything about Nantes and their attacking coach. Yet, PSG physically dominated Nantes, even though they were a month ahead in their preparations. Nantes wanted to start the match with intensity; they dropped back intensely to defend deep with the whole team. We know that against PSG, this can work, but you need to respond offensively. If you play deep, you have to try to score with a quick attack. Nantes played 0-0 (in itself, that’s not a great idea) and waited for PSG to win the ball, playing without energy or the idea of winning the match.
