This Sunday evening, Paris Saint-Germain drew 1-1 (video highlights Nice/PSG) against Nice on Matchday 7 of Ligue 1 2024-2025 at the Allianz Riviera. Here are our top and bottom picks from the draw.
Tops –
Nuno Mendes:
When he plays higher up, he’s dangerous. When he’s close to the strikers, he’s got that little something that feels good and reassuring. It’s not perfect, but in a Parisian fog, he was able to dispel the bad vibes with his attitude and certainty.
Lee:
He’s been very good for several games now. He lacks physicality, that’s his weak point, but on the attacking front, he brings cohesion, control and technique. He’s becoming more and more interesting, which is good news for PSG, who are sorely lacking players in this 9/false 9 zone.
Not losing:
It’s short-sighted to put this in the flops, but not losing is a step in the right direction when the going gets tough. These will be important points, and it’s no disgrace to draw against a fine Nice team away from home.
We expect better, but PSG won’t win everything, like Manchester City, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, who also slip up from time to time during the season.
Flops –
Kolo Muani:
He has so much trouble controlling the ball that it’s becoming embarrassing. The media think he’s paying for the others, but looking at his first half, you can’t save him and his exit is legitimate. He lacks almost everything. Can he grow and progress? I’m not sure. He has everything to succeed, except perhaps the level to play in a big team.
Zaire-Emery (Ruiz, Hakimi, Pacho…):
Zaire-Emery wasn’t good and everyone saw it. It was a non-match, not least because he struggled in duels, which is usually his strong point. He’s young, he won’t always perform well, but in this match, he was shaky. Learning to play at the highest level isn’t easy.
