The Disciplinary Committee of the Professional Football League (LFP) met this evening to decide on the various sanctions to be imposed following recent matches in French professional football. Among the cases discussed was that of Ilya Zabarnyi, the 23-year-old Paris Saint-Germain defender who accumulated five yellow cards after his last one against Nantes on Wednesday, April 22 (a rescheduled match from Matchday 26 of Ligue 1). He was therefore due for an automatic one-match suspension, and the LFP decided to maintain this sanction without adding another match.
A one-match suspension following a fifth yellow card (Ligue 1 McDonald’s, Coupe de France, Trophée des Champions) or due to the revocation of a suspended sentence. The sanction takes effect from Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
Daouda GUINDO (Stade Brestois 29)
Koffi KOUAO (FC Metz)Arthur MASUAKU (RC Lens)
Benjamin PAVARD (Olympique de Marseille)
Timothy WEAH (Olympique de Marseille)
Illya ZABARNYI (Paris Saint-Germain)
Unsurprisingly, an exceptional event is required for a yellow card to be rescinded or for such a suspension to be increased. Zabarnyi will therefore miss the match against Lorient on May 2 (Matchday 32 of Ligue 1), a situation that could complicate the rotation of the defense between the two Champions League semi-finals against Bayern Munich.
