Last January, the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final was marred by numerous incidents, including some highly questionable behavior. After weeks of analysis and discussion, the CAF issued a statement this Wednesday announcing that Senegal has forfeited the match, awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory, despite being 1-0 down after extra time. This decision stems from the Senegalese players leaving the pitch after a penalty was awarded to Morocco at the end of regulation time.

This is a rather bizarre moment, undoubtedly unprecedented in football. Especially considering the delay in such a decision. Will an appeal still be possible, given that it’s a decision by the CAF appeals committee? Will the Moroccans celebrate this title? In any case, for the moment, Morocco has won the AFCON. As for Paris Saint-Germain, Achraf Hakimi (27-year-old right-back) has won the title while Ibrahim Mbaye (18-year-old forward) has lost it.
