Mamadou Sakho, a defender who came up through the Paris Saint-Germain youth system (201 professional appearances), and later played for Liverpool (2013-2017), Crystal Palace (2017-2021), Montpellier (2021-2023), and Torpedo Koutaïssi (2024-2025), announced his retirement from professional football on Monday evening, having been without a club since last summer.

Thank you Sakho!

The best for the future! ❤️💙 pic.twitter.com/HRFykQpEHF

This is a significant moment for the fans, who may have sometimes exaggerated the qualities of their homegrown talent. But he still has a very impressive career, including the 2008 Coupe de la Ligue, the 2010 Coupe de France, and the 2012-2013 Ligue 1 title, not to mention his 29 appearances for the French national team, with a memorable performance against Ukraine in the 2014 World Cup playoffs.

He has always had a very strong connection with PSG, leaving in tears at the Parc des Princes to embark on his English adventure. Unfortunately, his career was marred by a positive doping test in 2016, even though he was cleared several months later. He was able to relaunch his career and experience some great moments, but he has now decided to move on.

We thank him for his determination and his continued love for PSG, and wish him all the best in his new career where he can thrive.
