On Monday evening, the 2025 African Player of the Year award was presented. Achraf Hakimi, the 27-year-old right-back for Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco, was among the nominees. He won the award ahead of Mohamed Salah (the 33-year-old forward for Egypt and Liverpool) and Victor Osimhen (the 26-year-old forward for Nigeria and Galatasaray).
This victory seems logical after a historic season, both collectively and individually. Hakimi has even become a very special kind of full-back, with a hybrid role that is difficult to emulate. We can only applaud his consistency at the highest level and wish him continued success after his ankle injury.
