Elijah Ly and Samba Coulibaly—an 18-year-old winger and defender, respectively—were among the Paris Saint-Germain players whose trainee contracts were coming to an end. A decision regarding professional contracts had to be made, and Club Brugge officially announced the arrival of the two PSG academy graduates this Thursday.

There is a hint of disappointment, as many had hoped to see these two PSG-trained youngsters gradually carve out a role for themselves in the capital. However, Ly and Coulibaly’s decision is understandable, given the greater likelihood of securing playing time at other clubs—including Brugge, which is an excellent destination. It is a top-tier Belgian club with a rich history and a track record of competing in European tournaments.
No choice guarantees future career success, but the decision made by these two academy graduates makes sense given the fierce competition at PSG. We can only wish them the best for the future.
