In the final match of Ligue 1 Matchday 5, Paris Saint-Germain traveled to face Olympique de Marseille and secured a 2–1 victory. After scoring on Sunday, 26-year-old Paris forward Ferran Torres spoke to PSG TV following the game.
Torres: “This victory is for them”
“I’m really happy. I just wanted to win this match for the fans—for our supporters who couldn’t be there. This victory is for them. As for my goal? I just remember Désiré taking the ball and me making a run in behind the defense. I saw the ball coming towards me and then watched it hit the back of the net. I celebrated with my teammates; it was a wonderful moment.”
It was an important win for PSG in this away match against their rivals from Marseille. Despite dominating play, the Parisians were unable to break the deadlock in the first half. While the opening goal brought a sense of relief, Marseille weren’t finished yet and managed to equalize quickly.
However, determined to win, Luis Enrique’s men found the breakthrough and claimed victory in the season’s first Classique. It is a welcome win that gives the Parisians a major confidence boost heading into the international break.
