Javier Pastore, the former Argentinian attacking midfielder (29 caps) who notably played for Paris Saint-Germain (2011-2018), stopped to speak to the media in front of the Élysée Palace during PSG’s celebrations for their second consecutive Champions League title. He spoke with great pride and confidence for the future.
Pastore: “It’s a lot of hard work, ambition, and long-term vision.”
What are your feelings here?
I think it’s fantastic, and for PSG, it’s even better. We’re happy to see you here again, in this beautiful palace.
What does this second title represent for PSG?
It’s a lot of hard work, ambition, and long-term vision. Nobody believed in 2011 that PSG could do this after 15 years. In the last six years, there have been three finals and two wins. It’s hard work. I’m happy for the club, for the president, for the coach, for the players. There are some really great things happening.
They have an exceptional training center. It’s a club that continues to improve every year. For me, there’s no end in sight.
Pastore: “Everyone can think we’re going to win next year.”
What was it like in Budapest, what were the emotions?
It was a very emotional match. We conceded a goal right away, but PSG controlled the game and looked for chances. I was calm; I knew that holding on for 90 minutes against a very strong team like PSG is very difficult. Then, when Dembélé scored, I felt more at ease. In the end, that’s how it goes in penalty shootouts; Paris was lucky to win, and that’s what matters.
Is a treble possible?
Now, anything is possible (smiles). We hadn’t won a Champions League title, now we’ve won two in a row. So everyone can think we’re going to win it next year.
