Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, president of Paris Saint-Germain, spoke to Canal+ after the Champions League draw. The defending champions, PSG, will notably face FC Barcelona in their group. The Qatari chairman praised “the greatest competition in the world,” while urging his team to approach this new campaign with humility and hard work.
Al-Khelaïfi: “It’s the best competition in the world”
How do you welcome this draw?
“It’s the best competition in the world. All the best clubs in the world and in Europe take part. It’s always difficult, but we will take it one game at a time.”
Facing FC Barcelona again – did Luis Enrique send you a message?
“No, we haven’t spoken. It’s good, it’s a match everyone is waiting for – us, Canal+. It’s a magnificent game between two great clubs. We have a lot of respect for them. But we are also a great club.”
Al-Khelaïfi: “Last season is forgotten, now we focus on the new one”
What difference does it make being the title holders?
“You know, last season is forgotten. Now we’re thinking about the new season. Of course, it gives us confidence, but confidence without work is nothing. We need to work and take it match by match. That’s the most important thing. It’s true that we won last season, but today that’s behind us – we’re focused on this season.”
